Leaving Childhood Behind (Video Transcript)
Hey readers. It’s Jay Lemming.
Hope you’re doing well today. This is going to be the first of three videos that I publish over the next couple of days and it’s all going to be leading up to the launch of something really special something I’ve been working on for quite a while and wanted to share with you.
But before I go into that, I wanted to talk a little bit about the end of childhood and when you move from a child to being an adult and what happens when that occurs because it can be very emotional–and in some ways–it’s a very jarring kind of episode and it doesn’t even happen at one moment.
I mean there’s a very gradual progression through your teenage years and then through your early 20s and whether you go through college or whether you come out of high school and then get a job it’s a very gradual progression.
B a lot of things happen as you’re moving from childhood to adulthood. One of the things you might experience is that you have to face more decisions than you’ve ever faced before. Secondly, some of the caregivers that you’ve had in your life–our teachers, your parents, other people who’ve looked after you, they’re still around but there’s also the sense that there is this growing distance between you and they in terms of the relationship that you once had and that’s what it means to become an adult.
And it happens over a period of time and we’ve all gone through it. It’s an experience where when you come out on the other side, you never quite know quite where you’re going to end up, who you’re going end up as, and how you’re going to feel about where you are at that particular moment and where you’ve been in the past.
So that’s it for now. In a couple of days I’m going to have a second video for you. I’m going to tell you a little bit more about coming-of-age novels–some coming-of-age novels that are great and some that I don’t feel are all that great.
But this is it for now. Thanks for listening and I’ll see you in a couple of days.
